Whether you’re considering them or already undergoing treatment, it is very common to have questions about Invisalign®. Following are some of the most popular Invisalign® FAQs:
What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is an advanced orthodontic treatment developed to straighten teeth while staying virtually unnoticed. It uses a state-of-the-art 3D computer imaging to customize a pre-planned treatment. It even can project the final positioning of a patient’s teeth.
How Does Invisalign® Work?
Invisalign® works by shifting teeth to straighten and align them using clear, plastic aligners customized to each patient’s teeth. The aligner trays are replaced every two or three weeks until the process is complete with teeth in the desired position.
What Does the Invisalign® Treatment Process Involve?
The treatment process begins with capturing the current position of the teeth using a digital scan and 3-D imaging. Once this is done, we send your scans to the Invisalign® labs to have the aligners made. The 3-D scans make it possible to create very precise aligners for each stage of treatment. Patients wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, sometimes less, depending on the selected protocol. Teeth shift slightly with each set of aligners until they are in the desired position.
Invisalign® aligners are worn about 23 hours a day and only removed to eat, brush and floss. Patients see Dr. Baloul about every six to eight weeks to check the progress and get a new set of aligners to use until the next appointment.
Does Invisalign® Affect How I Speak?
When first using Invisalign®, it takes some time to get used to them. Most patients fairly quickly forget they have them in their mouths and can continue to speak in the same way they’ve always spoken.
Is Invisalign® Really Invisible?
Invisalign® is made of a clear plastic that is virtually unnoticeable. This is advantageous for those who are not comfortable wearing metal braces, especially adults. Small tooth enamel colored attachments may be a bit noticeable, but their color usually allows them to blend in well with the teeth.
Does Invisalign® Work?
Invisalign® is an innovative orthodontic treatment that has given more than four million people the bright smile they’ve always wanted.
How Do I Care for My Invisalign® Trays?
To care for your Invisalign® trays, gently brush them with lukewarm water to clean them or use the Invisalign® cleaning system developed specifically for the Invisalign® aligner trays. It is important to follow your orthodontist’s instructions about keeping them clean to maintain optimal oral health during the treatment process.
How Long Does the Invisalign® Treatment Take?
Invisalign® treatments vary with each patient based on their specific treatment protocol. Most treatments typically take nine to 15 months with most patients wearing between 18 and 30 different aligners during the process.
What Happens After My Invisalign® Treatment is Complete?
Following any orthodontic treatment, including Invisalign®, Dr. Baloul recommends patients wear retainers to keep their teeth in the proper position. She discusses retainers and post-care treatments during a consultation and as treatments progress.
How Much Does Invisalign® Cost?
Just like any other orthodontic treatment, the cost of Invisalign® varies with each patient. It involves factors such as the length of time it takes to shift the teeth into their desired position as well as the number of trays needed. At Elegant Orthodontics, Dr. Baloul answers questions about Invisalign®, including the cost and financing information. We also help patients determine if their dental insurance provides orthodontic coverage.
