Invisalign® in Boston, MA
Invisalign® aligners are much less noticeable, but achieve the same goal as traditional metal braces. In Boston, Norwood, Brookline, Framingham, MA and nearby cities, Susan Baloul, DMD, MS, DScD, a dual-trained specialist in orthodontics and periodontics, offers Invisalign® to people who want a beautiful smile.
What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® involves a sequence of tight-fitting, custom-made clear teeth aligners worn over the teeth retainers that slip over the teeth. This innovative orthodontic treatment is essentially like wearing clear braces, as it works the same way but is barely noticeable. Invisalign® aligners are custom made to fit over each patient’s teeth and are more comfortable to wear than traditional braces. They are also easily removed when eating, drinking, and most importantly, brushing and flossing
What Does Invisalign® Treat?
Invisalign® treats several orthodontic issues including:
- Crooked Teeth
- Gapped or wide-spaced teeth
- Jaw misalignment
How Does Invisalign® Work?
When using Invisalign® to correct orthodontic issues, Dr. Baloul customizes a plan that uses a series of clear aligners that move teeth into their proper position. The aligners, made of a clear, smooth plastic, are custom made for each patient’s specific needs using digital scans and 3D imaging technology.
At Elegant Orthodontics, we use advanced technology state-of-the-art digital impression with the iTero® Element scanner. iTero scans take a few seconds to capture a dental impression of your teeth which allows us to provide you with better-fit aligners compared to the traditional dental impression.
The procedure is easy and prevents any gag reflex associated with dental impressions. During the impression process, you can breathe or swallow as you normally would. You can even pause during the process if you need to sneeze or just want to ask a question. The scanner gives us a 3D model of your mouth that we use with all Invisalign® services.
Each set of Invisalign® aligners are worn for two weeks to gradually move the teeth. At the end of that sequence, another set are custom made to replace the previous ones and continue the process. This continues until the teeth are in the correct position. Invisalign® treatments are very precise, so the aligners slowly shift the teeth into a straight, uniform position without any pain and are virtually unnoticeable.
Why Choose Invisalign®?
One of the biggest challenges with traditional orthodontic treatment is modifying your diet and daily routines to help ensure the treatment is as effective as possible. You can remove the virtually invisible aligner so you can eat, drink, brush and floss just as you already do. The aligners are far more comfortable to wear than the metal and wires associated with braces. Invisalign® also lets you see how your straightened teeth will look when you’re finished by using their digital imaging.
Am I a Good Candidate for Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is most effective for mild to moderate orthodontic issues. Patients dealing with more serious or multiple oral problems may require traditional metal braces to straighten and align their teeth and jaws. Another factor that may affect the type of braces used is the age of the patient; Invisalign® is best for older teenagers and adults.
While frequently worn by teenage patients, Invisalign® is a more popular option for adults. Additionally, some of the characteristics that are correctable with Invisalign® include crooked, gapped, or protruding teeth as well as a misaligned bite such as under, over, and cross bites.
