Why Should My Kids Need Orthodontic Correction? One of the most common forms of orthodontic correction used with children is braces. Despite the negative stigmas associated with braces in the past, the technology had really come a long way from the braces of old, including new systems that speed up the process, can be virtually invisible, and much less expensive.
Children’s Teeth Correction
It’s recommended that most children see an orthodontist by age seven (7) when there is a good mix of primary and permanent teeth in place. This allows orthodontists to properly assess the incoming teeth and determine what kind of care and correction your child might possibly need. The goal is to ensure proper development of the teeth before it’s too late.
Usually, orthodontic corrections are necessary because of a few reasons. Usually braces are the preferred or more common method which can help correct bad habits such as thumb-sucking. They could improve minor speech problems. They can create more space for crowded teeth, and they can guide the growth and development of the jaw to allow permanent teeth to grow straighter.
What Do Parents Need to Look For? If your child or children have crowded teeth, exhibit thumb-sucking, a popping sound when they open or close their jaw, or have teeth that are coming in very misaligned, then there is a strong chance that they will need to see an orthodontist to help correct the development of their teeth.
How Will This Affect My Child? It may not be an ideal situation, but it will most certainly be beneficial for your child. Braces, for example, have had major improvements in the technology. While there may be some discomfort – especially with more traditional braces systems – with Damon braces or Invisalign, there is minimal discomfort.
Damon Braces are smaller in size and cause lower force therefore they are more comfortable near the inner lips. Invisalign is a removable tray that can be taken out during eating and worn the rest of the time without issue. And the length of time your child need to wear the braces is dependent on how much correction they need and the type of system that is being used.
